Tono's Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus tonozukai) is a small fairy wrasse from the waters of Indonesia, where it inhabits hard-bottom reef areas covered in algae and sparse coral growth, typically in zones swept by strong currents. Like many members of its genus, it lives in loose social groups built around a hierarchy. Females and juveniles school together, often alongside multiple males, with the largest and most dominant male presiding over the group. This social structure means keeping a single male with a small group of females can produce some genuinely interesting behavior in the aquarium. It stays compact at under three inches, which makes it well-suited to mid-sized reef tanks, and its carnivorous diet is easily satisfied with a variety of small frozen and prepared meaty foods. Cirrhilabrus wrasses as a group tend to be active, open-water swimmers, so giving this fish plenty of unobstructed space to move matters more than many people expect. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as fairy wrasses are notorious jumpers. Intermediate care experience is recommended, not because the fish is fragile, but because it does best when water quality is consistently well-maintained and tankmates are chosen with care.
