Sebae Clownfish

The Sebae Anemonefish (Amphiprion sebae) is one of the less commonly seen clownfish in the hobby, which is a shame because it has a look all its own. Where many clownfish lean orange, this one sports a rich brown to yellowish-brown body crossed by two white bars edged in black, with a distinctly yellow tail that gives it one of its alternate names, the yellowtail clownfish. It's found across the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa through to the western Pacific, typically hosting in Stichodactyla haddoni, the saddle anemone. In the wild it's rarely found with any other anemone species, and in captivity that preference can make things tricky if you're planning a pairing. Like all clownfish, it has a strong personality and a territorial streak that gets more pronounced as it matures, so tankmates need to be chosen with some care. It's not the best fit for a peaceful community reef, and it does better when given a reasonably sized tank where it can claim its corner. It's rated intermediate partly for that temperament and partly because of the anemone considerations, so newer keepers might want to start with a more adaptable species first.
