About

Slender Danios (Brachydanio sp tw01) are a not-yet-formally-described species. Or possibly a regional variant of B. feegradei. Collected near the coastal town of Gwa in Rakhine State, western Myanmar. The Rakhine Yoma mountains effectively isolate this region, and the fish fauna there has its own distinct character, with several interesting species sharing the same waters. The most reliable way to tell these danios apart from the similar-looking 'Inlecypris' maetaengensis and 'I.' shanensis is the dark marking on the caudal peduncle, which the other two species lack. In terms of personality, these are energetic, active fish. True to the danio mold. They are not aggressive in a predatory sense, but their constant movement and enthusiasm at feeding time can stress slower or more timid tankmates. Keeping a group of ten or more is genuinely worthwhile here, as it distributes the social pressure and gives lower-ranking fish some breathing room. Dominant males develop noticeably more vivid coloration, which makes the hierarchy easy to read at a glance. Breeding follows the typical egg-scattering cyprinid pattern and is achievable for hobbyists willing to set up a dedicated spawning container with a suitable medium like Java moss or wool mops. A forgiving choice for newer keepers, provided the tank community is chosen with their boisterous nature in mind.
