About this strain
The Celestial Eye takes the telescope eye concept to its extreme — the eyes are rotated permanently upward, fixed in a skyward gaze, giving the fish a uniquely otherworldly appearance. The dorsal fin is absent in true specimens (a key distinguishing point from some Telescope variants). Body is egg-shaped, coloration typically red, orange, or red-and-white. Vision is severely compromised; these fish cannot see food falling from above and must be fed from below or at their level. Needs the most careful, deliberate husbandry of any goldfish — pristine water, ultra-smooth décor, and tankmates that won't steal all the food.
Origin
Developed in China, with records suggesting the variety was established by the early 1800s. Selectively bred from telescope-eyed ancestors through deliberate manipulation of the eye-tilt trait.
