Bubble Tip Anemone

The bubble tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is probably the most commonly kept anemone in the saltwater hobby, and for good reason. It ranges widely across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and east Africa out through Micronesia and Melanesia, all the way north to Japan and south to Australia, turning up in reef environments from shallow water down to considerable depths. What makes it instantly recognizable are the tentacles, which balloon into distinctive bulb-shaped tips under good conditions. Though the same individual can display elongated, more tapered tentacles when light or flow isn't quite right, which occasionally confuses newer keepers into thinking something is wrong. Coloration varies quite a bit, from the classic brown or tan to rose, red, and even vivid green color morphs. In the wild it hosts several clownfish species, and that relationship works reliably in captivity too. Many keepers specifically set up tanks around this pairing. A well-established bubble tip will occasionally split into two individuals, which is a good sign the animal is thriving. It can live for decades with proper care, so this is a long-term commitment. It's considered intermediate-level, mainly because anemones need stable, established reef conditions and reasonably strong lighting to do well long-term.
