Sarasin's Goby (Mugilogobius sarasinorum) is a genuinely unusual fish with a range that fits on a single dot on the map. Lake Poso in central Sulawesi, Indonesia. That extreme endemism alone makes it interesting to keepers who appreciate rare and localized species. In the wild it occupies a variety of microhabitats around the lake, from silty sand shallows and muddy or gravelly bottoms to steep gravel banks and limestone rock faces, sometimes with aquatic vegetation nearby. It feeds on small fishes and insect larvae, so a varied meaty diet is the way to go in captivity. Like others in its genus, it has some capacity for facultative air-breathing, a handy physiological trick that hints at the sometimes low-oxygen conditions it can encounter in its native lake. The water chemistry of Lake Poso leans alkaline and moderately hard, so replicating those conditions is important. This isn't a fish you can just drop into generic community water. Given its specialized requirements and limited distribution, Sarasin's Goby is best suited to a keeper with some experience, ideally one with a dedicated Sulawesi-style setup. It's not commonly seen in the trade, which makes sourcing it a challenge, but for the right hobbyist that rarity is a big part of the appeal.
