Found in the fast-flowing, shadow-dappled streams of northern Myanmar, Devario strigillifer is a slender, active danio from the hills around Myitkyina. In the wild it inhabits shallow, quick-moving water shaded by bamboo forest, where overhanging vegetation filters out roughly half the sunlight. Conditions worth keeping in mind when planning its aquarium setup. Like most devarios it is a persistent open-water swimmer, so a longer tank with good flow and some shaded zones will keep it comfortable and active. This is not a species you see on every store shelf, but it behaves much like other members of the genus: energetic, schooling, and best kept in a group so the fish can interact naturally and any chasing stays distributed. Feed a varied omnivore diet and it should do well. The intermediate care rating reflects its flow and space requirements rather than any particular sensitivity. Water quality and a roomy, well-oxygenated setup matter more than precise parameter tweaking. With a lifespan that can reach into the upper single digits, this is a longer commitment than many small cyprinids, and a nice pick for a keeper who wants something a little off the beaten path from the usual danio options.
