About this strain
A swirling mix of black, white, and sometimes gold or silver, blended in irregular marbled patches across the entire body — no two fish look the same. The pattern tends to be less sharply defined than Dalmatian spotting; it's more of a fluid blending of colors than discrete spots. High-quality specimens show strong contrast between the dark and light areas; avoid fish where everything has blurred into muddy gray. This is a variety where buying in groups pays off because you get a genuinely diverse-looking school. Marble Mollies breed relatively true but there's always variation in the offspring, which keeps things interesting.
Origin
Emerged from crossbreeding between black, silver, and dalmatian molly strains in commercial breeding programs, with the variety stabilizing in hobbyist availability through the 1990s. Origin is broadly shared across multiple commercial producers globally.
