The Spotted Goby (Stigmatogobius sadanundio) is a small, pale-bodied fish decorated with dark spots across its body and fins, giving it a pattern that blends naturally into the sandy and muddy substrates it calls home in the wild. Native to coastal and estuarine environments from India and Sri Lanka east through Indonesia, it's most often found where rivers meet tidal influence. Though it leans toward fresher conditions rather than true brackish water, which is worth knowing when setting up its tank. Despite being labeled saltwater here, this species is really at home in low-salinity to fresh conditions and adapts well to a range of setups. Feeding is straightforward for a carnivore. It takes small invertebrates, meaty frozen foods, and similar offerings with enthusiasm, much as it would hunt mosquito larvae and tiny prey items in the wild. The temperament deserves a note: while generally peaceful toward midwater tankmates, it can be territorial with other bottom-dwellers, so it's best kept as the sole fish occupying that lower level of the tank. With its modest size and manageable care requirements, it's a solid choice for an intermediate keeper looking for something a little different on the substrate.
