Found in the Ntem and Ivindo river systems of Cameroon and Gabon, this West African catfish, also known as the Mustard Squeaker, is one of those species that surfaces occasionally in mixed export shipments rather than through dedicated collection. That intermittent availability is a shame, because Synodontis albolineata is genuinely well-suited to a general community setup, staying compact enough that it doesn't overwhelm a moderately sized aquarium. Its temperament is broadly peaceful toward other species, and it will share a tank comfortably with Alestiid tetras, Pelvicachromis and other mild-mannered cichlids, mormyrids, gouramis, and larger rasboras or barbs. The one caveat worth noting is territorial behavior toward its own kind when space is limited. Give a group enough room and the tension largely disappears. Like other Synodontis, it's an omnivore that will accept a wide variety of foods without fuss, and its care demands are modest enough that newer fishkeepers can manage it confidently. Breeding has not been documented in home aquaria. If you spot this species in a mixed Synodontis shipment, it's worth picking up. It's a genuinely useful catfish that doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves.
