Weitzmani (Corydoras weitzmani) is one of the lesser-seen members of a genus that most freshwater keepers already know and love. Native to the western Amazon River basin in South America, it shares the compact, armored body plan typical of the corydoras group, and like its relatives it occasionally darts to the surface to gulp air. A normal physiological behavior, not a warning sign. Just make sure there's enough clearance under the hood to prevent bumped snouts. One of the more endearing quirks of this species is its ability to tilt and move its eyes in a way that genuinely looks like blinking, which tends to catch people off guard the first time they see it. Weitzmani is a schooling fish and really does much better in groups. Keep at least four to six if you want to see confident, active behavior rather than fish hiding in corners. The more you keep, the more natural and relaxed they act. With a lifespan that can stretch well past a decade under good conditions, this is a fish worth investing care in. Intermediate-level keepers who already have some experience maintaining stable, clean water will get the best out of them.
