Sky Blue Coral (Acropora nana) is a small-colony Acropora from the Indo-Pacific that grows in shallow, wave-swept outer reef flats, typically within the top ten meters of water. The colony forms a compact mound of long, straight branchlets that radiate outward from a solid central base at even spacing. Giving the whole structure a tidy, almost architectural look. The branchlets don't taper toward the tips, which helps distinguish this species from some of its close relatives. Coloration tends toward cream, blue, or purple, often with contrasting purple branch tips that give the species its common name. One thing to keep in mind before buying: those branchlets are genuinely fragile and break easily during handling or shipping, so acclimation and placement need care. In the aquarium, this coral demands the intense light and vigorous flow that mirror its natural surf-zone habitat, and like most Acropora it requires stable, pristine water chemistry to thrive. This is not a beginner coral. It rewards experienced reefers who already have a mature, well-dialed system running.
