The Bicolored Foxface (Siganus uspi) is a rabbitfish with a genuinely restricted range. It calls Fiji home, with only the occasional stray turning up near New Caledonia. In the wild it occupies the dramatic edges of reef drop-offs and deep pools inside reef crests, grazing on algae and seaweeds in the sort of high-energy reef zones where current keeps things interesting. The name gives away the most obvious field mark: a sharp two-tone color division sets this species apart from the more familiar foxface rabbitfish. Juveniles tend to form loose schools, while adults are typically found in pairs, so if you can source a bonded pair, you have a good chance of keeping that social dynamic going in the aquarium. Like other rabbitfish, this species carries venomous dorsal spines. Something to be mindful of during maintenance or handling. It's an active, open-water swimmer that needs a generously sized system and a steady supply of plant-based foods to stay in good condition. Experienced keepers who can meet those needs will find it a hardy and long-lived fish, potentially thriving for a decade or more. Reef compatibility is generally reasonable, though large, established colonies of soft coral may occasionally be nipped.
