About

Brittan's rasbora (Rasbora brittani) is a slender, small cyprinid native to the blackwater streams and forest rivers of the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia. Like many rasboras from that part of the world, it inhabits slow-moving, often heavily shaded waterways where leaf litter and tannins keep conditions soft and acidic. In the aquarium it carries that same understated elegance. A slender silver body with a lateral stripe that catches the light when a school moves together through a planted tank. And schooling is really the key word here: a group of eight or more will show far more natural behavior and confidence than a handful kept in smaller numbers, with individuals staying active and out in the open rather than hiding near the substrate. Temperament is reliably peaceful, making it a practical choice for community tanks alongside other small, non-aggressive fish. At a maximum of around two inches, it fits comfortably in modest-sized setups, and its straightforward care requirements make it accessible to newer fishkeepers. A well-planted aquarium with some open swimming space, soft to moderately hard water, and gentle filtration will keep this species comfortable and looking its best over its six-year lifespan.
