Rainbow Prigi (Hypseleotris guentheri) is a compact goby native to a surprisingly broad sweep of the Indo-Pacific, turning up in Indonesia, New Guinea, the Caroline Islands, New Caledonia, Fiji, and Samoa. In the wild it favors clear, gently flowing streams, typically within a short distance of the coast, but its lifestyle is genuinely flexible. Individuals also wander into estuaries, mangroves, and even fully marine conditions, particularly during wetter seasons. That euryhaline tolerance is one of the most interesting things about this fish and is worth keeping in mind when thinking about long-term husbandry. Adults stay modest in size, reaching somewhere between roughly two and three inches, which makes them manageable but still means they appreciate a properly sized setup with room to establish territories. As an omnivore it accepts a fairly wide range of foods without much fuss. The intermediate care rating is fair. This isn't a fish that punishes small mistakes harshly, but its preference for clean, well-oxygenated water and its occasional need for brackish conditions means it suits a keeper who has moved past the absolute basics and is comfortable dialing in water quality consistently.
