Ludwigia repens 'Rubin' is a cultivated variety of the creeping primrose-willow, native to North America and selected for its exceptionally deep red stems and leaves. Where the standard species tends toward olive-green with reddish undersides, this form pushes that coloration to a rich burgundy throughout, making it one of the more vividly colored stem plants available to freshwater aquascapers. Stems typically reach somewhere between 20 and 50 cm tall with leaves spreading about 4 to 6 cm across, giving it a solid, full-bodied presence in the background of a layout. One of the more rewarding things about this plant is how responsive it is to light. Under moderate levels it holds a warm red, but bump the intensity up and the color deepens noticeably. On the flip side, if light is too dim, the lower leaves tend to drop, leaving bare stems, so keeping it reasonably well-lit pays off. It is generally forgiving in terms of care, which makes it a realistic choice even for newer planted tank keepers. Planting it in clusters rather than single stems makes a real visual difference, and regular trimming encourages lateral branching and a bushier, fuller appearance rather than a leggy single stem reaching for the surface.
