The species is named for its tiger-like patterning, which sets it apart from many of its relatives and makes encounters with it in the hobby genuinely memorable. Like most pike cichlids, it comes equipped with a large, gaping mouth and a predatory mindset. Any tankmate small enough to fit inside that mouth should be considered a potential meal rather than a companion.
