Pore coral (Montipora corbettensis) is a reef-building species with a growth form that sets it apart from many other montiporas. Colonies develop as thick, plate-like structures that can grow in a unifacial or bifacial arrangement, and the most distinctive feature is the presence of irregular, lumpy upgrowths that tend to emerge near the center of the colony. Giving mature specimens a sculptural, almost architectural quality. Corallites are immersed flush into the surface, and the coenosteum is textured with papillae that vary noticeably in size, with the larger ones roughly matching the diameter of the corallites themselves. Coloration runs toward the modest side, typically yellowish to brown, so this isn't a species people keep for bold color. It comes from shallow reef environments where light intensity and water movement are consistently high, and the aquarium needs to match that. This is firmly an advanced-keeper coral. It demands stable, well-maintained water and serious lighting to thrive. The unusual growth texture and colony architecture make it genuinely interesting to keep for someone who appreciates form over flash, but it won't forgive neglect or inconsistent conditions.
