Found in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean, Alcyonium spitzbergense is a soft coral belonging to the family Alcyoniidae. A group commonly known as finger corals or dead man's fingers for the lobed, fleshy colonies many members produce. Like other alcyoniids, this species forms colonies of polyps embedded in a soft, fleshy matrix, giving it a tactile, almost rubbery appearance quite different from the stony corals most reef keepers are familiar with. Because it originates from cold polar seas, it sits well outside the typical tropical reef setup, and hobbyist data on keeping it in home aquaria is genuinely sparse. What the available information does suggest is that it falls into the beginner care tier and is considered reef safe, tolerating moderate lighting and moderate water movement without special demands in those areas. That said, matching its cold-water origins is a real consideration any serious keeper would need to think through. This is not a species you will encounter at your average local fish store, and detailed captive husbandry experience in the hobby is limited. If you do come across it, treat the sparse care data with appropriate caution and research cold-water coral keeping thoroughly before committing.
