The queen conch (Aliger gigas) is one of the most recognizable large gastropods in the world, famous for its thick, spiral shell with a flared pink lip that deepens to a rich rose color inside. Found across a broad stretch of the Western Atlantic, from the waters off South Carolina all the way south to Brazil, it lives on sandy and seagrass bottoms in shallow coastal zones, grazing slowly across the substrate on algae and organic material. In the wild it can reach impressive sizes, and even in an aquarium setting this is a genuinely large animal that needs a spacious setup and a deep sand bed to forage across. Despite its size, it is entirely peaceful and poses no threat to tankmates. It moves in a distinctive lurching motion, using its muscular foot to push itself along rather than gliding smoothly like many other snails. Keep in mind that the type listing here says freshwater, but the queen conch is absolutely a marine species. It needs full saltwater conditions to survive. Given appropriate marine parameters and room to roam, it is not a particularly demanding animal to keep, making it an accessible choice for hobbyists with a large, well-established reef or fish-only saltwater system.
