The Blue Leg Poso Shrimp (Caridina cf babaulti) originates from Lake Poso in Sulawesi, Indonesia, one of the world's oldest lakes and home to a remarkable collection of endemic freshwater invertebrates. What sets this shrimp apart is its coloration. A translucent to pale body contrasted by distinctly blue-tinted legs that give it an almost otherworldly appearance in a well-planted tank. Like other Sulawesi shrimp, it has evolved in water conditions that differ quite a bit from the soft, acidic parameters many shrimp keepers are used to, so getting the water chemistry right is a key part of keeping this species successfully. The good news is that once the tank is properly established and stable, these shrimp are considered manageable even for beginners who do their homework. They tend to be peaceful and social, spending most of their time grazing on biofilm and fine algae across rocks, substrate, and plant surfaces.
