In the wild it occupies flowing freshwater habitats, and that active, current-adapted lifestyle carries over into the aquarium. This is a fish that appreciates good water movement and a well-maintained tank. Adults reach a respectable size, so a roomy setup is necessary to keep them comfortable and show off their natural behavior.
