Found on protected Indo-Pacific reef slopes and sheltered bays where Acropora diversity is at its richest, Acropora speciosa grows in dense cushion-like colonies studded with distinctive bottlebrush branches. The axial corallites are large and elongated, tapering only slightly, while the radial corallites grade into them but remain small and closely pressed against the branch surface in a tubular or pocket-like form. The overall coloration tends toward cream, with the corallite tips picking up delicate pastel hues that give the colony a subtle two-tone look. In the wild this species occupies a wide depth range, from shallow reef crests down to around 35 meters, always in clear, well-circulated water. In the aquarium it asks for the same conditions. Intense lighting and vigorous, varied flow are non-negotiable, and water quality needs to be consistently pristine. This is an advanced-level coral, best suited to a mature, stable reef system where the keeper already has a track record with demanding SPS. It is fully reef safe and poses no threat to neighboring corals beyond the usual need for adequate spacing as the colony expands outward. If your system can meet its needs, the architectural growth form makes it a genuinely interesting centerpiece piece for an SPS-dominated tank.
