The Bermuda Blue Angelfish (Holacanthus bermudensis) is a large, commanding fish found across the Western Atlantic, ranging from the waters around Bermuda and the Bahamas down through southern Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico, including the Yucatan coast. Out on the reef, adults stake out rocky or coral reef territory and feed heavily on sponges, while juveniles tend to hang back in channels and shallower inshore areas. In terms of looks, adults develop a soft bluish-gray body with yellow-edged scales, giving them a warm, almost muted elegance compared to some of their flashier angel relatives. Young fish wear the classic bold-striped juvenile pattern common to several Atlantic angelfish, making ID a little tricky when they're small. In the aquarium, juveniles can be reasonably settled once they're eating well, and they're generally tolerant of peaceful tankmates of similar size early on. That changes as they grow. Adults become territorial and will assert themselves against anything they perceive as competition, so careful stocking decisions matter. Their eventual size and need for significant swimming room means this is genuinely a species for hobbyists with large, well-established systems and some experience reading angelfish behavior.
