Unlike the bushy, branching gorgonians that dominate most reef displays, this species grows as a single elongated whip, sometimes reaching impressive lengths, giving it a clean, minimalist silhouette that stands out in a mixed coral system. In the wild it typically anchors to hard substrate and extends into the current, relying on passing water to deliver the planktonic food it needs.
