Mushroom Coral (Lithophyllon spinifer) is a stony coral found in the West Pacific, with collections documented from locations like Laing Island. In the wild it tends to grow in calmer, lower-energy reef zones, and that preference for gentle water movement translates directly into the aquarium. This is not a coral you want to blast with a powerhead. It typically forms flattened, plate-like or disc-shaped colonies with a textured surface, giving it a modest but natural look that fits well into a mixed reef without demanding center stage. What makes this species appealing to newer reef keepers is its relatively forgiving nature. It sits comfortably under moderate lighting without the fussiness that plagues many SPS corals, and it doesn't require the intense flow that some of its stony cousins demand. Placement on the sandbed or lower rockwork usually works well, letting it settle into a spot where light and flow are both dialed back. As with most stony corals, stable water quality matters more than chasing perfect parameters, and regular feeding can help support steady growth.
