It was documented as part of a broader cataloguing of New Caledonian marine life, and its range appears to be relatively restricted compared to many of its more widespread Lobophytum relatives. Like other members of its genus, it likely forms fleshy, lobed colonies that expand when conditions are favorable and contract when stressed or during periodic shedding cycles. A normal behavior in leather corals that sometimes alarms newer keepers.
