The beaded anemone (Heteractis aurora) gets its name from the distinctive bumpy, bead-like texture running along its column, which sets it apart from other anemones at a glance. In the wild it's widespread across the Indo-Pacific, typically anchoring itself in sandy or rubble-strewn areas on shallow reef flats where it buries its column and spreads its tentacles to catch light and passing prey. The tentacles are relatively short and tapered, often appearing in shades of brown, grey, or greenish hues depending on the zooxanthellae living within its tissues. That symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae means good lighting is one of the most important things you can provide. Unlike some of the more temperamental anemones in the hobby, this species is considered one of the more forgiving options for keepers who are newer to hosting anemones, though a mature, stable reef system is still the baseline requirement. It is a known host to several clownfish species in the wild, so pairing is certainly possible, though hosting behavior can vary between individual animals and is never guaranteed. Like all anemones, it will wander if conditions aren't to its liking, so watch for it drifting near corals or powerheads.
