Rainbow Platy Platy
Xiphophorus maculatus
About this strain
A multi-hued variety that combines iridescent blue, green, and golden tones across the body — each fish is slightly different, giving the strain an almost kaleidoscopic quality. The colors shift with light angle, and the best specimens under good lighting can display a full warm-to-cool spectrum simultaneously. Because the variety is produced through complex crosses, offspring vary, and truly vibrant individuals should be selected carefully from the batch. It's not always consistent, but a well-colored Rainbow Platy is genuinely eye-catching. Best displayed under white or daylight-spectrum lighting to bring out the iridescence.
Origin
Developed through hybridization of multiple Xiphophorus maculatus color strains, likely with some Xiphophorus variatus influence in certain lines. Commercial production is centered in Southeast Asian fish farms; no single breeder is identified as originator.
