Blue Killi
Fundulopanchax filamentosus
Also known as: Plumed Killi, plumed lyretail
Ornate West African killifish with flowing fins and a taste for live food.

About
The Blue Killi (Fundulopanchax filamentosus) is a small but visually elaborate killifish from the coastal rainforests of Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, where it inhabits shallow, swampy waterways and boggy forest streams. Males develop extended, filamentous fin rays, most noticeably on the tail and dorsal fin, giving the species its alternative name, Plumed Killi. The body typically shows rich blue and orange patterning that intensifies in well-conditioned fish. In the wild, this species feeds on invertebrates including worms, crustaceans, and insects, and it holds firmly to that preference in captivity. A varied diet of live and frozen foods is important for keeping these fish in good shape. Spawning happens at the substrate level, with eggs requiring around six weeks of incubation. A process that rewards patient breeders. This is genuinely an intermediate-to-advanced species. Sources consistently flag it as a challenging fish to keep long-term, so it is better suited to hobbyists who already have some experience with killifish or similarly demanding small fish. A species-focused setup or a carefully chosen community with similarly sized, non-boisterous tankmates gives it the best chance to thrive. The lifespan potential is generous for a fish this size, reaching several years in good conditions.
